Heat and Frost Insulators & Allied Workers

The Western Lake Erie Insulation Industry (WLEII), through its Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee (J.A.T.C.) labor-management group, offers apprentices and journeymen the most current and up-to-date apprenticeship and upgrade training available in its ultra-modern training facility at the Northwest Ohio Construction Education Center in Toledo. There, the Heat & Frost Insulators occupies 6,000 square feet of training space with a state-of-the-art, hands-on laboratory and fully equipped classroom area.

The J.A.T.C. coordinates the WLEII apprenticeship-training program, which is structured for entry level workers as well as insulation workers already employed within the industry who wish to upgrade their skills and advance to journeyman status.

Within the lab, students are exposed to each and every insulation situation and condition possible, from working with many types of materials, such as fiberglass, cork and calcium silicate; to insulating hot and cold piping, refrigerant lines, ductwork boilers and tanks; fire-stopping; and nuclear facilities insulation.

Classroom instruction and on-the-job training make WLEII apprentices the industry leaders of the future. They not only are educated in the installation, design, and maintenance of insulation systems, but also the safe removal, handling, and proper disposal of hazardous materials, such as mold and asbestos.

The J.A.T.C. also works with the National Insulation Training Program (NITP), a new 2-day training program, to provide a variety of professionals with a working knowledge of insulation and insulation systems design. This assists them with avoiding costly mistakes that result in system failure and injury to plant personnel.

The Northwest Ohio Construction Education Center is located at 4535 Hill Avenue in Toledo. Contact the facility at (419) 531-5911.
