Named the best minor league
ballpark in America by Newsweek magazine, Fifth
Third Field opened in 2002 in downtown Toledo as the home
of the Toledo Mud Hens, the AAA minor-league affiliate
of the Detroit Tigers.
The $39 million project featured the 8,900-seat stadium
built under construction manager Lathrop Construction.
The project also included renovation of five buildings
in the right-field corner that are incorporated into the
ballpark and house a souvenir store and team offices.
The field is below street level, allowing the outside
of the brick ballpark to match the height of surrounding
buildings, and includes a tiered picnic plaza behind the
right field fence.
Within the stadium, three different locker rooms are available
for the home team, the visiting team and umpires A complete
workout room with weight equipment is available as well
as a full indoor batting practice area. Laundry facilities,
numerous offices, food preparation equipment, a full lounge
for home team victory parties and team families to watch
the game, as well as many other preparation rooms, are
tied together via a network of underground hallways. |
