Construction unions offer real, tangible advantages to owners (users), employers (contractors) and employees (workers) – quality of life advantages that can only come with employing or being part of a highly skilled, well-trained union labor workforce.

For Construction USERS
Signatory construction contractors and their union counterparts furnish thoroughly trained construction tradespersons and technicians to any construction project, so owners receive world-class construction, maintenance and installation services every time – so projects are completed on time and on budget. According to The Construction Users Roundtable (CURT), union construction work sites are 17% more productive than non-union sites.

With labor-management cooperation like that fostered by the A.C.P., construction users – public and private owners – can count on a union workforce to be capable and professional, allowing any user’s vision for any construction project to be realized.

For Construction CONTRACTORS
A union workforce provides significant, bottom-line advantages that save contractors money – such as having access to the region’s top talent, expanded bid opportunities and greater hiring flexibility while reducing human-resources management costs.

Signatory union contractors still run their own businesses, but they also have access to a large pool of highly trained union construction professionals. That’s because unions like those in the A.C.P. continuously recruit and train quality construction workers, providing them with nationally recognized apprenticeship training and journeyman upgrade programs in state-of the art training facilities. By acquiring and training the best and brightest construction-trades people available, unions can provide contractors with a workforce that is second to none at a cost of only pennies an hour.

What’s more, the unions handle all human resources and benefits administrative tasks!

For Construction WORKERS
Union workers like those employed by A.C.P. contractors are more likely than their nonunion counterparts to receive higher wages and benefits such as health care and pensions, according to the U.S. Department of Labor – making them more satisfied with their work and more eager to perform it well.

Data shows that union workers, on average, make 27% more per week in wages than nonunion workers. The U.S. Department of Labor also has reported that 79% of union workers have pension plans versus 44 percent of nonunion workers, and 70% of union workers have defined-benefit retirement coverage compared with only 16% of nonunion workers. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, 73% of union workers in medium and large establishments had medical care benefits in 1999, compared with only 51% nonunion workers.
